Description
Ribavirin is a synthetic guanosine nucleoside analogue with broad-spectrum antiviral activity. It has been used off-label for treatment of various viral hemorrhagic fevers including arenaviruses. Ribavirin inhibits viral RNA synthesis and viral mRNA capping, making it effective against RNA viruses including those causing Brazilian hemorrhagic fever (Sabiá virus).
